Investing in the Next Generation of Leaders: Scholarships at St. Joseph’s College Sasse, Cameroon

The Gatsby Showcase Foundation is committed to expanding access to education for students in underserved communities locally and globally recognizing education as a powerful catalyst for leadership, economic mobility, and community transformation.

As part of this commitment, the Foundation proudly sponsors international scholarships for students at St. Joseph’s College Sasse in Cameroon, West Africa. This initiative was formally announced during SOBA America Day 2024 and reflects a deep investment in the academic and leadership potential of students who demonstrate promise but face financial barriers to continued education.

Expanding Access to Education Through International Scholarships

In October 2024, the Gatsby Showcase Foundation provided scholarship support to 44 students at St. Joseph’s College Sasse. These scholarships help alleviate financial constraints and enable students to pursue higher education, develop critical skills, and prepare for leadership roles within their communities.

By supporting students at this formative stage, the Foundation contributes to long-term outcomes that extend beyond individual recipients strengthening families, communities, and future generations.

Partnership-Driven Global Impact

This scholarship initiative was made possible through a partnership with SOBA America / the Sasse Alumni Association, underscoring the importance of collaboration in advancing educational equity. Through this partnership, the Foundation supports pathways to self-sufficiency and leadership in regions where access to educational resources remains limited.

The St. Joseph’s College Sasse scholarships are part of the Foundation’s Gatsby Scholarship & Sponsored Learning Program, which includes both domestic and international education investments aligned with measurable impact and accountability.

Education as a Foundation for Sustainable Change

By investing in education in Cameroon, the Gatsby Showcase Foundation reinforces its belief that talent exists everywhere, but opportunity does not. International scholarships such as these help close that gap empowering students to envision futures shaped by possibility, purpose, and meaningful contribution.

UN SDG Alignment

  • SDG 4 – Quality Education: Expanding access to secondary and post-secondary education through scholarship support for students in underserved regions.

  • SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities: Addressing educational inequities by reducing financial barriers for students in low-resource communities.

  • SDG 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth: Supporting long-term economic mobility by investing in education and leadership development.

  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Advancing global education outcomes through collaboration with diaspora and community-based partners such as SOBA America.
