Healthcare Workforce Development & Mentorship Program

Healthcare Access & Equity

UN SDG Alignment: SDG 3 • SDG 4 • SDG 8 • SDG 10 • SDG 17

The Healthcare Workforce Development & Mentorship Program strengthens the healthcare talent pipeline by supporting individuals interested in pursuing careers in healthcare through early exposure, mentorship, and professional guidance. The Gatsby Showcase Foundation recognizes that building a diverse, well-prepared healthcare workforce is essential to advancing health equity and improving long-term health outcomes particularly in underserved communities.

Aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, this program advances SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by expanding equitable access to healthcare career pathways and workforce opportunities.

Program Focus

The Healthcare Workforce Development & Mentorship Program prioritizes:

  • Early exposure to healthcare careers and professions

  • Mentorship and guidance for aspiring healthcare professionals

  • Workforce pipeline development across the healthcare ecosystem

  • Supporting diversity, equity, and representation in healthcare fields

The program serves students and early-career individuals exploring or pursuing roles across clinical, public health, administrative, research, and allied health professions.

What We Do

Mentorship & Career Guidance

(SDG 4 | SDG 10)

Participants receive mentorship from healthcare professionals, educators, and industry leaders who provide:

  • Career exploration and advising

  • Academic and professional guidance

  • Insight into healthcare training and credentialing pathways

  • Support navigating key educational and career transition points

Mentorship helps demystify healthcare careers, builds confidence, and equips participants with the knowledge needed to make informed career decisions.

Exposure & Workforce Pathways

(SDG 3 | SDG 8)

The program creates opportunities for participants to:

  • Learn about diverse healthcare roles and disciplines

  • Engage directly with healthcare professionals and institutions

  • Understand workforce demands, trends, and opportunities

This exposure supports informed decision-making, strengthens workforce readiness, and encourages long-term engagement in healthcare careers.

Pipeline Development & Strategic Partnerships

(SDG 17)

We collaborate with:

  • Healthcare institutions and providers

  • Educational institutions and training programs

  • Community-based organizations

These partnerships ensure that mentorship and workforce development efforts are aligned with real-world healthcare needs, workforce shortages, and community priorities.

Connection to Education & Scholarships

Participants in this program may be eligible for consideration under the Gatsby Scholarship Program, which provides financial support to students pursuing education in healthcare, STEM, and related fields.

By maintaining a clear distinction between mentorship and financial assistance—while intentionally linking the two—Gatsby ensures clarity, transparency, and measurable impact across its education and workforce initiatives.

Why This Matters

Healthcare workforce shortages and lack of diversity directly affect access to care, quality of services, and community health outcomes. By strengthening pathways into healthcare careers, this program helps to:

  • Improve representation and equity within the healthcare workforce

  • Support long-term community health and system resilience

  • Create sustainable economic mobility opportunities

A strong, diverse healthcare workforce is foundational to equitable healthcare access.

Measuring Impact

Program outcomes are assessed through:

  • Number of individuals participating in mentorship activities

  • Career pathway engagement, progression, and retention

  • Partnerships established with healthcare and educational institutions

  • Participant feedback, milestones, and professional outcomes

These measures support accountability, continuous improvement, and transparent reporting.

Looking Ahead

As the program expands, future initiatives may include:

  • Structured mentorship cohorts and peer learning networks

  • Expanded exposure opportunities and career immersion experiences

  • Deeper alignment with education, training, and workforce partners

  • Integration with broader healthcare access and equity initiatives

Program growth will be guided by demonstrated impact, sustainability, and community need.
