The scholarships were awarded to three students in recognition of their outstanding academic performance during the 2025–2026 academic year, when they were in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades, respectively. Each recipient was joined by their parents, who shared in the celebration as the students were recognized before chapter members, families, and members of the broader community.

The well-attended event celebrated not only academic achievement, but also the important role that families, mentors, and community organizations play in encouraging young people to pursue excellence.

A Partnership Rooted in Community

SOBA Carolinas is the North Carolina and South Carolina chapter of SOBA America, the alumni association of St. Joseph’s College Sasse (SJC Sasse) in Cameroon for alumni residing in the Americas. Its members across the Carolinas are committed to fellowship, service, education, mentorship, and giving back to the communities in which they live and work.

The partnership between SOBA Carolinas and The Gatsby Showcase Foundation reflects a shared commitment to education, community service, and creating opportunities for the next generation.

Through its sponsorship of the scholarship program, GSF helped provide educational support to three promising young scholars at different stages of their high school journeys.

For the Foundation, this investment reflects a fundamental belief at the heart of its humanitarian mission: education is one of the most powerful pathways to opportunity, economic mobility, and lasting community transformation.

Investing in Potential

The Gatsby Showcase Foundation’s mission extends beyond addressing immediate needs. The Foundation seeks to create pathways that enable individuals and communities to build stronger, more sustainable futures.

Supporting young people who have demonstrated academic excellence is an important part of that vision.

“Every young person deserves the opportunity and encouragement to pursue their full potential,” said Dr. Bertrand Fote, President and CEO of The Gatsby Showcase Foundation. “When we recognize academic excellence and invest in education, we are investing not only in individual students, but also in the families, communities, and future generations they will influence. We are proud to support these scholars and look forward to seeing what they accomplish.”

During the ceremony, the President of SOBA Carolinas publicly thanked The Gatsby Showcase Foundation for its support of the scholarship initiative. The chapter also presented GSF with an Appreciation Award in recognition of the Foundation’s philanthropy and commitment to educational advancement.

GSF receives the recognition with gratitude and as further encouragement to continue building partnerships that transform generosity into meaningful opportunity.

Local Action, Global Purpose

The SOBA Carolinas scholarship partnership advances several of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that help guide The Gatsby Showcase Foundation’s humanitarian work:

SDG 4 – Quality Education: Recognizing academic achievement and supporting educational opportunities for young people.

SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities: Helping expand pathways for young people to pursue their educational potential and future opportunities.

SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Bringing nonprofit and community organizations together to create meaningful, locally driven impact.

While The Gatsby Showcase Foundation’s humanitarian vision is global, the Foundation believes that transformative change also begins within the communities we call home.

From educational initiatives and scholarships to healthcare access, women’s empowerment, humanitarian assistance, and economic opportunity, GSF continues to build partnerships that turn compassion into action and opportunity into lasting impact.

The Gatsby Showcase Foundation congratulates the three scholarship recipients on their academic achievements, celebrates the parents and families who have supported their journeys, and extends its appreciation to SOBA Carolinas for its continued commitment to education, service, and community.
